How to buy a domain that is taken
Find a sales contact and evaluate a domain purchase carefully.
Check for a public offer
A registered domain may still be offered for sale. Search for RFC 10023 records, inspect the current website and look for a named marketplace listing. Lack of a website does not establish that a domain is unregistered or available to buy.
Find the right contact
Use a published listing or contact URI as a starting point. Confirm the seller controls the domain through an independent channel before making an agreement. Registration information through RDAP may be limited or privacy-protected, and is not a complete sales directory.
Agree on the full transaction
Clarify the exact domain, total price, currency, fees, payment method and transfer process with the seller. Published DNS prices are indicative. Consider a reputable marketplace or escrow service appropriate to the transaction; verify its website independently.
Complete the transfer carefully
Check the registrar’s transfer requirements and any applicable restrictions. Avoid sending money based solely on a DNS record or unsolicited message. This checker does not broker sales, hold funds, verify ownership or perform transfers.
