Privacy and analytics
How this service handles searches and optional measurement.
Domain lookups
Submitted hostnames are sent to Cloudflare’s public DNS resolver to retrieve public records. If you request website inspection, our server connects to the searched website, which can observe our request. Public DNS and website metadata are stored in a short-lived server cache. Successfully checked public domain names may appear in the homepage’s recently searched list. This shared list retains only up to 20 distinct hostnames for seven days, without visitor identifiers or URL paths; an internal timestamp is used only for ordering and expiry. This service does not require an account.
Website screenshots
For website previews, our server sends the public hostname to Thum.io, the default screenshot provider, or ApiFlash if configured by the operator. It does not forward your IP address, cookies, search history or URL paths. These providers render the public website on their own infrastructure. We validate returned image files and store cached images privately for up to seven days, serving previews as current for at most 24 hours. The preview image is delivered from our own website; your browser does not contact the screenshot provider directly.
Technical data
Rate limiting uses a one-way hash of your network address in temporary server storage. The hosting provider may keep normal access and security logs, potentially including IP addresses and requested URLs. Application errors avoid raw queries and personal details. Cache cleanup is designed to remove expired entries daily; host log retention must be set by the operator.
Optional analytics
Matomo at analytics.siekman.io (site 48) is our primary analytics platform. Google Analytics 4 (G-MNP8VZD4GE) is secondary. Both remain unloaded until you accept optional analytics. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and the Analytics preferences link lets you change your choice. Your preference is stored in this browser for 180 days. Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track disable optional analytics.
What analytics receives
After opt-in, analytics receives a generic page category and events such as domain_search or dns_validator_use. We replace domain-result paths with /domain/result and remove query strings, titles containing searched domains and referrers from tracking configuration. We do not intentionally send searched hostnames, seller emails or listing destinations. Analytics providers necessarily receive connection information such as your IP address. Matomo cookie use is disabled in the client; server-side IP anonymization and retention must be configured by its administrator.
Your choices
You can use the checker without analytics. Withdrawing consent stops tracking and reloads the page, while removing accessible analytics cookies. Contact jouke@siekman.io for privacy questions or data requests. Google processes analytics according to its own privacy terms; the operator must review provider arrangements and applicable international transfer requirements before production activation.
